The Mini Counterfeit Kit Challenge for the blog hop was to create a card, inspired by fashion, using my Counterfeit Kit, and adding some "bling".

I
really thought about making a card for the challenge...but I cheated. I know that the point of the Counterfeit Kit Challenge is to put together some of the supplies we have on hand and actually USE the kit's contents. I do not usually make cards, and I have 100's of pictures that are in need of a home, so I veered from making a card, to creating a double page layout. I know, it's completely "illegal" LOL...but I need to spend my valuable scrappy time making layouts. I have a feeling you will understand :)
Well, while I was brainstorming, looking through the few remaining contents of my Counterfeit Kit, and browsing the Internet...I asked myself, "Who has a great sense of fashion?" The first person who came to my mind...Jackie Onassis Kennedy...then Michelle Obama. So I Googled Images of "Michelle Obama fashions". As soon as I saw her and The President's pictures from his inauguration, I KNEW this was going to be my inspiration...

My "fashion" inspiration |
I only had a few sheets of paper left in my kit, which included a piece of white, floral, lace/doily paper and a piece of lime green paper with white polka dots. As soon as I saw the First Lady's dress in this picture...my creativity took over!!! It was PERFECT for this challenge! And you know what made it even better? President Obama's tie is red! I still had my red flowers and red lace in my Counterfeit Kit, I decided they would make the perfect embellishments! This is a combination of supplies that I would have NEVER chosen on my own. As for the background cardstock, I took a cue from President Obama's suit and went for black. I choose the pictures to use on my layout because I remembered that we were all wearing different shades of green in our family portraits from Christmas 2009...and I had been waiting for
just the right papers to scrapbook them. Everything was falling into place. With the pictures, supplies, and embellishments in front of me, I decided to refer to a sketch from the class
Stretch Your Sketch for the layout inspiration.

I rotated the entire sketch 90 degrees and went to work. Everything in my layout I pulled from my Counterfeit Kit except the black cardstock and the green bling. So although I didn't follow the mini challenge to the "T", I feel like I accomplished alot by completing a layout. (Hey, at least I was inspired by fashion, added some bling, and used my kit!). Here is what my layout looks like...

Once again, my "fashion" inspiration. |
UPDATE: Ok, so I felt guilty for not creating a card too...I thought it would be fairly easy to create the card from the leftover scraps of my layout, I was right...
